Government Information

The federal government provides one stop shopping for government information, at usa.gov. This allows both browsing and a search of federal and state government information.
For federal regulations, MI-AHMP recommends e-cfr.gov. This is updated daily. In addition, pending changes are flagged with a link to the “Federal Register” citation. It is also searchable. DON’T DEPEND ON THE BOUND VOLUMES. They’re more than 6 months old by the time they’re available.
For information on virtually any regulated substance go to the EPA’s Substance Registry System.
For information on EPA compliance, go to the EPA’s Enforcement and Compliance History Online.
The Michigan Guide to Environmental, Health, and Safety Regulations provides a comprehensive overview of Michigan and federal environmental, health, and safety regulations.
The RCRA Orientation Manual – 2008 edition provides an introduction to these complex regulations.
The “WISER” (Wireless Information System For Emergency Responders) software provides a link to information on a wide range of hazardous substances. This can be downloaded at:

Online Training

If you can’t get away from the office to attend training, consider these online training modules.
OSHA Safety Training – Scott Selasky, a former Chapter member, maintains this website with an excellent selection of courses.
OSHA Hazcom Training – These are useful for “right to know” training.
FEMA Training – FEMA offers a variety of training modules for emergency responders.
EPA – ERT Virtual University
Case Studies Environmental Medicine – The Case Studies in Environmental Medicine (CSEM) are a series of self-instructional courses designed to increase the primary care provider’s knowledge of hazardous substances in the environment and to aid in the evaluation of potentially exposed patients. Continuing medical education (CME) for physicians, continuing nursing education (CNE) for nurses, continuing education units (CEU) for other professionals, and continuing education contact hours (CECH) for certified health education specialists (CHES) are offered in support of this series.

Workshops and Seminars

The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE) offers an excellent series of workshops on environmental topics. These are available at a nominal cost. For an up-to-date schedule and registration information, click here.
